For those that are concerned about the plight of honeybees, this 3 session course will introduce you to Honeybees and Beekeeping. Learn the basics about honeybees, beehives and equipment before making the leap to become a beekeeper.

Session 1 – Introduction to honeybees, their role in the environment, bee and hive products and the threats to honeybees survival. Discussion of the ways to help the honeybees survive.

Session 2 – A year in the life of a beekeeper. Learn the chores a beekeeper performs throughout the year to acquire bees, maintain the hive and do what they can to insure hive survival. Hands on activities included.

Session 3 – Hive and Beekeeper equipment and supplies. A review of the equipment and tools necessary for the beekeeper, beehives, honey extraction and bottling. Hands on activities included.

Maple Syrup Saturdays @ Clay Pit Ponds Visitors Center

Learn about the entire process of making maple syrup from tap to table! We will hike for up to an hour on our trails to find maple trees, drill holes, hang buckets, and collect sap so please wear snow boots, gloves, and a hat.
